CAN'T WAIT! MY FIRST TIME JOINING TOO!
Everyone is going to be like this when it starts:
HAPPY HACKTOBERFEST (SOON)!!!
So hyped for this! Hacktoberfest 2026 is going to be huge.
Absolutely
It's been awesome to see just how much work has been going on behind the scenes to make this year possible. Very excited!
Huge shoutout to the team behind the scenes! People usually only see the final deployment, but the real magic is always in the infrastructure and late-night prep that makes it all run smoothly. Can’t wait to see the output of this season! 🚀
Woooooooooooooooo! So excited for this year's refocus
Yupsss, super duper excited! 🤩
Let's goo!
So excited to get to bring this new version of Hacktoberfest to the community this year!
How do we join the hacktoberfest?
It's one of the biggest events for Open Source Contribution!!!
Woohoo! Can't wait
So excited to be part of the organizing crew for Hacktoberfest. We have so much planned for y'all this month!
Yes, this is exactly right. We really want something new in this new era of AI, because everything is changing.
So, we need new ways to learn and experiment with open source. Open source isn't just behind closed models anymore; it is neck-and-neck, competing with and even outperforming some frontier proprietary models.
It is really worth learning and experimenting with these tools, and even creating some fully functional agents. With open source, this will be a great year of Hacktoberfest, and I'm fully excited for this.
Love this shift. The four-PRs-for-a-shirt era actually got me into open source years ago. 😅 When a PR can be generated in seconds, the count doesn’t really tell you much anymore.
Moving from “how many did you submit?” to “what did you learn to build?” feels much more meaningful.
I’m coming back to open source from a completely different direction this time — detection. My thing has always been finding what doesn’t belong, first in atmospheric data and now in cybersecurity. 🔎
I’m thinking about building an open-source detection
skills.mdfor Hacktoberfest this year, maybe something around taking an alert and mapping it to MITRE ATT&CK.I love the idea of finishing October with something I actually learned from and can keep building on after the event ends. If AI belongs to everyone, defenders should be part of that too. 🛡️
This is a great direction for Hacktoberfest. Moving from PR counting to meaningful learning and building feels especially important now that AI can generate code so quickly. I’m particularly interested in the focus on open-source skills and agents. Looking forward to seeing what developers build this year!
let's hunt some merchandise.
Cannot wait! Hoping to be able to connect with Dev fam in person!!
Awesome
Should be great
Will be
Soooooooooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cant wait
exicted
Pivoting from the 4-PR rule to actually building and fine-tuning open-source AI is exactly the refresh Hacktoberfest needed. I recently wrapped up a project building an automated AI career coach, and the potential for integrating open-weight models into those kinds of workflows is huge. Has anyone else started brainstorming what kind of agents they plan to build this October?
Super cool to see the shift toward open source AI! At The Printing World, we've been looking at how open agents could help automate inventory tracking and layout proofs for custom boxes. Excited to see what people build this month.
Hacktoberfest is not just about submitting PRs for badges. It encourages high-quality, actionable open-source contributions. New contributors are recommended to start with incremental improvements such as documentation refinements, adding unit tests, and fixing edge-case issues. Maintainers can label issues properly and improve contribution guidelines to lower the barrier for new participants. Let’s work together on changes that bring long-term value to the project. Looking forward to more substantial open-source contributions.
Woooo! So excited it will be my first tie to join
Exciting!!!!
It is a promising sign of quality.
very nice! I hope Rullst to participate and gets a lot of contributions
